Chen Jiuteng
Chen Jiuteng (Chen Xiaohua), born in Jinhua, Zhejiang, in 1973. He currently lives in Jinhua, Zhejiang.
Chen Jiuteng is a contemporary Chinese artist whose practice has evolved over four decades—from traditional Chinese painting to the distinctive visual language he calls Sen Xiangism.
Rooted in the spirit of Chinese landscape painting yet freed from literal representation, his work explores the continuum between nature and inner perception, movement and stillness, material and spirit. Working with ink, mineral pigments, handmade papers, and high-fired ceramic panels, Chen allows color, brushwork, and material to generate forms without predetermined imagery.
Rather than depicting a landscape, he creates an immersive field of perception—a space where nature is experienced as energy, rhythm, and spiritual presence.
